01Who they are

Since April 2021, SOF Connect has held the keys to Bulgaria’s front door: the company operates Vasil Levski Sofia Airport under a 35-year concession, charged with developing and modernising the country’s largest airport.

Behind it stand two names that carry weight in European infrastructure — the investment fund Meridiam, which owns the company, and Munich Airport, which brings its knowledge and best practices as operating partner.

The numbers are ambitious: EUR 624 million invested over the life of the concession, with a new Terminal 3 — and a new transport centre beside it — as the flagship project. In May 2026 the modernisation secured €450 million from the international capital markets; construction is scheduled to begin in the autumn of 2026.

The airport itself has been Sofia’s window on the world since 1937. Under SOF Connect it is becoming something more deliberate — a gateway designed, not merely operated.

For us, SOF Connect is proof that infrastructure can hold culture. Sofia Airport is among the stages our productions have played — because a departure hall, at the right moment, with the right music, becomes a room where people actually listen.
